Top Ten Books In My Beach Bag

Top Ten Tuesdays is a meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish that features a new topic each week where we have to put down our top ten of it.

Today's Topic:

Top Ten Books That Will Be In My Beach Bag This Summer

It started to warm up and I started to spend more time outside basking in the sun, bringing my books with me while I did so. Here are some books you'll find in my bag, either now or sometime in the future, this summer.

by: Miranda Beverly-Whittemore
"Suspenseful and cinematic, Bittersweet exposes the gothic underbelly of  an American dynasty, and an outsider's hunger to belong."( Read More )

This book was mentioned in People magazine, saying..."Bittersweet is worth savoring--it unfolds like a long summer day, leisurely revealing the dark."
Looks like it's been getting great reviews so I figured it'd be perfect for a summer read!! (I just started reading it today actually)

Quote from Bittersweet: " Before she loathed me, before she loved me, Genevra Katherine Winslow didn't know that I existed."

The Skin Collector (A Lincoln Rhyme Novel #11)
by: Jeffery Deaver
"A new type of serial killer is stalking the streets of New York – one more devious and disturbing than ever before. They call this butcher The Skin Collector:" (Read More)

This is another one of Jeffery Deaver's haunting and suspenseful mysteries involving detective Lincoln Rhyme and his associate Amelia Sachs. It's never a dull ride with these two investigators.

The Bone Collector (A Lincoln Rhyme Novel #1)
by: Jeffery Deaver
"A diabolical killer whose brutal slayings leave a trail of cryptic messages hidden at the scene of the crime is loose on the streets of Manhattan. As the city lies in fear, a gifted but disabled detective (Washington) teams with a rookie street cop (Jolie) to go inside the mind of thisterrifying madman and defeat him at his own game.

Since I'll be reading Deaver's, The Skin Collector, I figured I go back to where it all began with Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sach's very first case together.

Quote from The Bone Collector: " Sometimes you just can't be what you ought to be, you can't have what you ought to have. And life changes. Maybe just a little, maybe a lot. And at some point it just isn't worth the fight to try to fix what went wrong."

The Way of Kings (Book #1 The Stormlight Archives)
by: Brandon Sanderson
Brandon Sanderson, widely acclaimed for his work completing Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Times saga, begins a grand cycle of his own, with The Way of Kings, Book one in The Stormlight Archives.

I will be doing a group read for this massive book. It will be taking up all of my beach bag's space leaving no space for towels or sunblock, lol!

by: Katherine Dunn
"Geek Love throws its sulfurous light on our notions of the freakish and the normal, the beautiful and the ugly, the holy and the obscene. Family values will never be the same." (Read More)

I heard good and bad about this book, making me even more curious! Dark and mysterious, shocking and twisted. I always intrigued by the bizarre and this one seems fit. I eager to learn more about this book and this carni family it follows.

Quote from Geek Love: “They thought to use and shame me but I win out by nature, because a true freak cannot be made. A true freak must be born.”

by: Joe Hill
" Being good and praying for the best got him nowhere. It's time for a little revenge. . . . It's time the devil had his due. . . "

I just discovered Joe Hill a couple weeks ago when I read his mesmerizing and thrilling novel, NOS4A2. I feel in love with how original and imaginative his writing is and how he made me feel so close and sympathetic towards the characters he wrote about. I can not wait to dive into this devilishly twisted tale.

by: Joe Hill
"Judas Coyne (known simply as Jude to most) collects macabre objects, even snuff films (and yes, this is a sign that his soul is a bit awry and aching). But when he buys a dead man's suit he isn't prepared for what is coming to haunt him." (Read More)

I'm on a Joe Hill kick and I'm determined to read all of his books this summer, lol. This one is a ghost story dun... dun... dun......let's see if I get scared!!

by: E. Lockhart
"A beautiful and distinguished family • A private island • A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy • A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive • A revolution. An accident. A secret • Lies upon lies • True love • The truth."

 E. Lockhart’s novel, We Were Liars, is clever, alluring, and wildly addictive. Each summer the wealthy, seemingly perfect Sinclair family meets on their private island and We Were Liars is the story of what happened there...(Read More)

by: Neil Gaiman
"Born at the beginning of time, Destiny, Death, Dream, Desire, Despair, Delirium, and Destruction are seven brothers and sisters who each lord over their respective realms. In this highly imaginative book that boasts a diverse styles of breathtaking art, these seven peculiar and powerful siblings each reveal more about their true being as they star in their own tales of curiosity and wonder." (Read More)

What can I say, anything that involves Neil Gaiman, I have to own & read!

The Fever Series By Karen Marie Moning
Darkfever (book #1), Bloodfever (book #2), Faefever (book #3), Dreamfever (book #4), Shadowfever (book #5)
"A darkly erotic and paranormal world, torn apart by the struggle between humans and Fae.

I already own this series but I've only read book #1, Darkfever. Luckily I'll have the chance to finish the series this summer. There is a group of us, from Goodreads, doing a summer read/re-read of this series. I'm so excited to catch up with the quirky MacKayla Lane and mysterious bookstore owner, Jericho.

I tried to step outside the box this summer, going from reading nothing but Fantasy, to spreading it out, trying out some Suspense, Thrillers, Romances and even a Grapic Novel. I've come to realize also that I have entirely way too many "TBR" books, just sitting there in my bookcase, not being read. So until I read a good amount of those books, I WILL NOT be buying anymore new books.
YEA RIGHT!! Who am I kiddin'
LOL!
Seriously though, I really need to read the books I have already. So I will limit the amount of books I buy and do the whole library thing instead.

What's in y'alls "beach bag" this summer??

  13. Oh, The Bone Collector.... how I love that book although I am waaaaaaaaaaaay behind on reading the Lincoln Rhyme series (as I am with Kathy Reich's Temperance Brennan book too :( ). I did think about We Were Liars as I've read some simply spectacular reviews of it, actually, I am still thinking about reading it but I just don't know when I can fit it in! I haven't read Joe Hill...... yet! I am planning in reading Horns very soon but I do have Heart-Shaped Box and NOS482 on my Kindle waiting for me as it the Fever series by Karen Moning AND Geek Love AND most of Braden Sanderson's books too!

See..... we do have the exact same taste in books, totally crazy but I rather like it!
