Review: Half A King by Joe Abercrombie

Half a King
by Joe Abercrombie
My Rating: 5 Stars

“I swore an oath to avenge the death of my father. I may be half a man, but I swore a whole oath.”

Prince Yarvi has vowed to regain a throne he never wanted. But first he must survive cruelty, chains, and the bitter waters of the Shattered Sea. And he must do it all with only one good hand.

The deceived will become the deceiver.

Born a weakling in the eyes of his father, Yarvi is alone in a world where a strong arm and a cold heart rule. He cannot grip a shield or swing an axe, so he must sharpen his mind to a deadly edge.

The betrayed will become the betrayer.

Gathering a strange fellowship of the outcast and the lost, he finds they can do more to help him become the man he needs to be than any court of nobles could.

Will the usurped become the usurper?
But even with loyal friends at his side, Yarvi finds his path may end as it began—in twists, and traps, and tragedy.

This is the first book I've read by Abercrombie and trust me, it will not be the last. Probably my favorite book read in 2014.

With a memorable cast of characters and a gripping, unpredictable journey til the end, this book did not disappoint. It exceeded my expectations and I'm eager to read more of Joe Abercrombie's work.

Whip-cracking pace, full of action, adventure, betrayal and plot twists galore. I can not stress how entertaining and enjoyable this book was. I definitely see myself re-reading this in the future.

I'm thrilled that this is only book one in Joe Abercrombie's Shattered Sea Series and I'm anticipating the wait for the next installment.

A must read for Everyone!!!!!

5 STARS

  1. Wow, I love your enthusiasm :) It's great to see this book praised so much by reviewers. The plot seems very original and I WILL give it a shot but don't you just feel like sometimes reading some books in physical copy rather than in digital one? I'll be ordering this book next week I think. ^^

    1. It too me a while to read the digital arc, due to the fact that: I just love reading from a physical book. So yes, I definitely know what you mean. I don't do a lot of NetGalley reviews just because of that reason. Only if it's something I'm super eager to read. I was lucky enough with Half a King that after reading just one chapter of the arc, I went right out and book the book. Proud owner of the physical copy :)
It's really a great story. Check it out girl xo
