Top Ten of the Most Unique Books I've Ever Read!!!

Top Ten Tuesdays is a meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish that features a new topic each week where we have to put down our top ten of it.

Today's Topic:

Top Ten of the Most Unique Books I've Ever Read

Maybe it was the genre, the characters or the setting that was unique. Most of the unique books I read are written by the same author, So I figured I'd group them by their author.

From the mind of Clive Barker comes the most inventive and the most unique stories I have ever read. His books were the first I've read that broaden the "genre" horizon, opening up the world of Fantasy, which most of the unique books I've read stem from.

1.) Imajica~ Over 800 pages, a behemoth of a book, mixed with fantasy, horror, sci-fi and smidge of erotica.
"It's epic in every way; vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in it's resolution. (read more here)"

2.) Abarat~  My journey with Candy Quackenbush is still on going one. Being sucked out of her town of Chickentown, USA by one massive wave, brought to a completely different world, an extraordinary world with filled with the most unique people and places to explore!

3.) Mister B. Gone~ This book starts off in a unique way. Written by a demon, Jakkabob Botch, who is telling you to "Burn the book! Don't read another word out of it, just burn it"! He's so convincing I almost did burn it. Good thing I didn't! lol

This author's books are so wild.Bold and pleasantly vile. Vulgar but in a nice way! LOL!! Chuck Palahniuk is an amazing rebel writer of transgressive fiction. He definitely does not write about the norm and that in itself makes all of his books unique. Here are just a few from a list of unique books I've read by him:

4.) Invisible Monsters~  This book has one of the most bizarre, most unique twists I've ever been bombarded with lol! Here is one of my favorite quotes from the book:

All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."

5.) Fight Club~  The most uniquely FUCKED up story every written. Probably THE coolest book I have ever read!!!

"The First Rule of Fight Club is: You DO NOT talk about Fight Club!!!!"

Oh how I love thee! I think that every book I've read by Mr. Neil Gaiman has been unique. Every aspect of the book is, the characters especially. In some of his books he brings back some key characters and I think that is  quite unique!

6.) MirrorMask~ actually this started out as a fantasy film. So the book I read was filled with pictures from the film itself.  Very unique book!

7.) The Ocean at the End of the Lane~  Holy Bananas! This book was nothing like I thought it was going to be. Labeled as an adult book, but it seem more like an older children's book.  Kids watch out for your parents, the darkness is taking over the adults......

“Grown-ups don't look like grown-ups on the inside either. Outside, they're big and thoughtless and they always know what they're doing. Inside, they look just like they always have. Like they did when they were your age. Truth is, there aren't any grown-ups. Not one, in the whole wide world.” ~ The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

China Mieville is in the same category as Clive Barker and Neil Gaiman. The trio is always acknowledging each other in their books. Saying how inspired and grateful they are of each other. It's because of Neil Gaiman I found out about this amazing writer!! One of his books is not only unique but is one of my most favorite:

8.) Un Lun Dun~ with a adventurous journey on the flip-side of London, where milk cartons act like dogs and books talk. OMG! Talking about this now makes me want to re-read this book now!!

9.) A Clockwork Orangeby Anthony Burgess

This is a strange tale of crooks taking over the nights. Ruling the streets who talk in a brutal, unique slang. This book is a riot, literally, one that is quite controversial.

“Well, well, well, well. If it isn't fat, stinking billygoat Billy-Boy in poison. How art thou, thy globby bottle of cheap, stinking chip-oil? Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou.” ~ A Clockwork Orange

Both books are in the same series about the most peculiar group of children, each with a powerful gift. One with strength, one who is invisible, ... but a unique part of this book isn't just the story but it's the odd, vintage pictures the author collected and shares for us readers to see.

A lot of the books I read are in the fantasy genre and we all know how fantasy can be very imaginative and unique. I love books with magic and creatures that aren't typically one's we seen in picture books or at the zoo's, you know, one of a kind creations.

That's what I like!

What about y'all? What's some of the most unique books that you've ever read?? Leave me a comment ;)
