This book was nice...
I mean I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it. I thought some parts were slower than others but in no way did that take anything away from it. Once it got going I found it to be irresistibly entertaining.
Looks like I need to make room on my shelves for a "new series" collection

I appreciated how there was no Insta-Love connection between the two main characters. The author took her time letting them adjust to the setting and surroundings, especially in the new "situation" they found themselves in. With the romance being so subtle, we got to learn more about the culture and political aspects of the story. While their love was building, the plot was thickening, leading us to one hell of a twist!
There's action and betrayal.
A slow burning, believable romance and an unpredictable ending that will have readers craving more.

I'm very pleased with this lovely and thrilling start to a new series, and I'm interested to see what the next installment has in store for us!

Glad to read you enjoyed this one! Especially since Lumateran fans have the best taste in books! :) I hope to pick this one up soon - I am especially looking forward to the romance!
ReplyDeleteThe author did a wonderful job at making this feel so realistic, leaning more on the historical fiction side than on the fantasy side. It's on the verge of being Contemporary, in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteEither way, I love it and I hope you'll enjoy it just the same!
Thanks for stopping by Charlene xoxo
I think it was almost too nice sometimes, I wanted more grit!

Me toooo!! I think that's why it didn't get 5 stars from me. Hopefully the 2nd installment spices up some!!!
DeleteYeah...this was a 4 star read for me too! ;) I loved it, but, like you and Missie said, I felt like it was almost too...tame at some parts, you know? I felt the urgency in the action sequences, but it wasn't enough to make me go..."Oh my gosh! Are the characters all going to die?" Anyways, Kestrel and Arin were awesome, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed this one Michelle; and, as always, brilliant review! <3

I so prefer it when a author takes the time to let characters develop a believable relationship vs the instalove option. Lovely review Michelle.

Oh btw, I love the Jamie Lannister gif ♥♥
DeleteAll of us popping up with the same book. :O Haha!
ReplyDeleteI really do think this one was a good set up of even better things to come. I hope so anyhow.
