Once Upon a Top Ten(ish) Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesdays is a meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish that features a new topic each week where we have to put down our top ten of it.

Today's Topic: Top Ten Books If You Like X tv show/movie/comic/play etc. (basically any sort of other entertainment)

Top Ten-ish Books If You Like Fairy Tale Retellings

Fairy Tale Retellings have always been done but as soon as a little show called Once Upon A Time aired on ABC, it seems that the demand for retellings sky rocketed. Now we see books everywhere with some kind of adaptation of the classic fairy tales.
(click on any of the books to link you to Goodreads page)

* Snow White *

* Cinderella *

* Little Red Riding Hood *

Here are some books that have their own story but with hints of classic fairy tales throughout ~

There are even some out there, that are a bit twisted and naughty ;)

I really do love fairy tales being retold and tweaked. We all grew up loving the classics but it's nice to know that authors are out there flipping these stories around, finding new and improved ways to entertain us all.

There are a lot of hits and misses with Fairy Tale retellings but I enjoy reading them so I'll take the risk!!!

*Keep an eye out for these up and coming new fairy tale retellings:

What's your favorite Fairy Tale Retelling?
What Fairy Tale would you like to be retold? And if it's already been done, what would you do differently?

  1. This top ten turned into a top 1021381293721931. I'm actually quite impartial to OUAT (mainly because I wished on many occasions that Emma would just die...but alas woe is me). I took the liberty of using the POTATO comment from last week as a starting point for my TTT this week...sort of LOL.

    Cheers,

  5. I love fairy tale retellings. The first book I always think of is Juliet Marillier's Wildwood Dancing, a retelling of the twelve dancing princesses and the frog prince. One of my favorites. Also, Robin McKinley's Beauty, which is really wonderful. Thank you for visiting my blog.

    1. I've always wanted to read some of Juliet Marillier's books. I actually own the first three books in her Sevenwaters series. But everyone recommends that I should read Wildwood Dancing to start. I'll have to check out Robin McKinley's book. Thank you so much for the recommendations! I truly appreciate it and I will definitely look into them :)

  6. Great list! I love a good fairy tale retelling, especially if it is a creative spin that has references to the source material, The Lunar Chronicles were great for that! I'm thinking about doing retellings for my theme in June. These are definitely books to keep in mind!

  11. I haven't read a lot of these, actually! Although I ADORE retellings. x) They're my absolute favourite. Hehe...I loved Tiger Lily and Splintered too...although I'm not sure if they're quite fairy tale retellings or just classic retellings? Anyways. Awesome list!

  14. Yes, I love me a good re-telling, too. There's a really cool sounding one called Wild coming out soon. It's a Tarzan re-telling. Has that even been done? :)
    I recently found Sarah Pinborough. And really enjoyed her three re-tellings she has out. And the hardcover books are also beyond beautiful!
