The Golem and the Jinni
By: Helene Wecker
"Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a disgraced rabbi who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master, the husband who commissioned her, dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York in 1899.

Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop. Though he is no longer imprisoned, Ahmad is not entirely free – an unbreakable band of iron binds him to the physical world."

I am so utterly consumed in this beautiful story of two completely different creatures, set on a journey to find themselves. Uuuggghhhh.....I can not explain how captivating Helene Wecker's writing is! Magnificent (and I've only just begun!)

Hollow City
By: Ransom Riggs
"The extraordinary journey that began in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children continues as Jacob Portman and his newfound friends journey to London the peculiar capital of the world. But in this war-torn city, hideous surprises lurk around every corner. Like its predecessor, this second novel in the Peculiar Children series blends thrilling fantasy with never-before-published vintage photography to create a one-of-a-kind reacting experience."

This sequel was everything I thought it was going to be, a hauntingly beautiful, fairy-taleish kind of story. Children with extraordinary abilities to do the most incredible things. I'm excited that the series will go on and I'm anticipating the 3rd books release.

The Darkest Minds
By: Alexandra Bracken

Sixteen year old, Ruby, is one of the dangerous ones. While on the run she finds a group of kids that has what she has. In a fight against the government, Ruby will be forced to make a terrible decision that will mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

Depending on when I finish the book I'm currently reading, I'll pick up where I left off on this one. I know, I was reading this but then I got The Golem and the Jinni and I have been dying to read it. But if I finish before Jan. 28th, I'll finish this one. If not then I'll be reading:

Red Rising
By: Pierce Brown
Release date: Jan. 28, 2014

"The war begins...

Darrow is a Helldiver, one of a thousand men and women who live in the vast caves beneath the surface of Mars. Generations of Helldivers have spent their lives toiling to mine the precious elements that will allow the planet to be terraformed. Just knowing that one day people will be able to walk the surface of the planet is enough to justify their sacrifice. The Earth is dying, and Darrow and his people are the only hope humanity has left.
Until the day Darrow learns that it is all a lie. Mars is habitable - and indeed has been inhabited for generations by a class of people calling themselves the Golds. The Golds regard Darrow and his fellows as slave labour, to be exploited and worked to death without a second thought.

With the help of a mysterious group of rebels, Darrow disguises himself as a Gold and infiltrates their command school, intent on taking down his oppressors from the inside.
But the command school is a battlefield. And Darrow isn't the only student with an agenda.."
